Board of Directors

FFPC has five independent corporate board members. The FFPC Board conforms to the Affiliate Relationship Code (“ARC”) with one-third of its directors independent from Affiliates. FFPC’s policy with respect to the proportion of independent directors is to comply with the requirements of both the Affiliate Relationship Code and the Ontario Business Corporations Act (OBCA).

 

Larry Cousineau - Board Chair

Larry Cousineau, of Fort Frances, was involved in municipal politics for over ten years serving as a town councilor. Larry became an elected commissioner of the Fort Frances Public Utilities Commission (former Fort Frances Power Corporation) in 1992. During his time as commissioner Larry served as a director of Northwest Energy. Larry also served on the executive of the Electrical Distributor’s Association Northwest Region and has received the EDA’s Long Term Service Award. Larry dedicated his career to working in a family owned and operated insurance company, Cousineau Brokers. Larry has also volunteered much of his to chairing the Riverside Foundation for Health Care, which was instrumental in bringing a CT Scanner to the Fort Frances La Verendrye Hospital. Larry also played a major role representing the residents and small businesses of Fort Frances in the 1905 Historic Power Agreement dispute that was resolved at the Supreme Court of Canada. Larry has an extensive background in business holding the position of President of the Chamber of Commerce as well as being a Charter Member of the Business Improvement Association of Fort Frances.

 

Deane Cunningham - Vice Chair

Deane Cunningham, of Fort Frances, was involved in municipal politics for twenty-six years. Dean was elected to be the Mayor of Fort Frances from 1981 to 1985. In 1981 Deane became a member of the Fort Frances Public Utilities Commission during the rebuild phase of the distribution system in Fort Frances. Deane sat on the Bill 35 Committee during the restructuring the Fort Frances Public Utilities Commission creating the Fort Frances Power Corporation. Deane also was appointed to be a director on the Fort Frances Network Services Board of Directors, bringing cell phone coverage to Northwestern Ontario. Deane donated much of his time as Vice-Chair of the Riverside Foundation for Health Care and as the Chair of the Just Image Fundraising campaign that brought a CT Scanner to our local hospital. Deane also played a major role representing the residents and small businesses of Fort Frances in the 1905 Historic Power Agreement dispute that was resolved at the Supreme Court of Canada. Deane has also an extensive business background, dedicating over forty years in the Furniture Retail Business.

 

Glenn Witherspoon - Secretary/Treasurer

Glenn Witherspoon was born and raised in the Fort Frances area. He moved to the USA in 1961 to play hockey and serve in the USA Air National Guard. In 1967 he returned to Fort Frances to work in a family business and to manage and coach the Fort Frances Union A Royals (Hockey). Glenn was involved in municipal politics for eighteen years. From 1991 to 2003 Glenn served as the Mayor of the Town of Fort Frances. He was also a municipal councilor for the town from 1985 to 1991. Outside of municipal politics Glenn was the owner and manager of Witherspoon's One Stop, a local service station and convenience store as well as is currently a partner in the Fort Frances Duty Free. Glenn also served as president of a variety of organization including the Rainy River Municipal Association, Northern Ontario Municipal Association and local Minor Hockey.

 

Roy Avis - Director

Roy Avis of Fort Frances comes from a family who has been very involved in Municipal politics. Roy was elected to be the Mayor of the Town of Fort Frances in 2006 and is presently the Mayor (Roy’s father Allan Avis was also the Mayor of the Town of Fort Frances from 1972 to 1980). Roy has been a very active community member including being the Trustee for the Fort Frances Rainy River District School Board, a member of the Board of Directors of the Fort Frances Curling Club, member of the Police Services Board and as a director of the Fort Frances Network Services Corporation. Outside of Municipal politics Roy has been the President of West End Motors Inc., a family owned and operated Daimler Chrysler Dealership. Roy has over forty years of business experience and was also a member of the Bill 35 Committee that restructured the Fort Frances Public Utilities Commission to the Fort Frances Power Corporation.

 

Aimee Matheson - Director

Aimee Matheson is the newest member of the Fort Frances Power Corporation Board of Directors. Aimee was born and raised in Fort Frances. After obtaining her Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Toronto in 2004, Aimee worked for Cadbury and Weston Bakeries. In 2009, Aimee returned to Fort Frances to raise her family and continue her career. Aimee operates her business, Rainy Lake Technical Solutions, which provides services to clients in energy and environmental management throughout the Rainy River District. Aimee has her P.Eng and is a Certified Energy Manager (AEE). Aimee is the President of Canadian Parents for French as well as the Sponsorship Director for Kids and Company.
